She was rewarded for her efforts by being named Teacher of the Year in 1982, and was a state finalist that same year After her retirement, she and G.B. hit the road to follow the rodeo circuit.
It was truly a great experience that she cherished. When the rodeo travel ended, they settled in to follow their grandchildren and great grand’s many endeavors. She rarely missed a game, awards ceremony, concert, or any event in which her family was involved. Laverne was known as Ms. Mac by her grandchildren, a name that caught on and was used by everyone. The Elbert Baptist Church was her church home, and also where she led the singing for many years. Ms. Mac loved and adored her entire family, just as they loved and adored her.
